Do you want to get paid to stay in hotels?

Did you know you can actually get paid to stay at hotels? When I first discovered this to the extent that I did I was like what? No way! It can’t be that easy, but then I really started understanding it more and realized I could take it up a notch. After all, who doesn’t want to save money when traveling? Especially on hotels!

When I first started looking into ways I could make money online whilst traveling I discovered affiliate marketing. I’d heard a bit about it but hadn’t really explored it and didn’t really understand it properly. For those that don’t know, affiliate marketing is where you promote a link which comes back to you, and you make a commission on bookings made through your link or purchses.

So I researched quite a bit and then was keen to test out what I had learnt. Now being new to blogging at the time, I’ll be honest I was overly excited and hadn’t really thought it out properly as I just wanted to see what I could do. I jumped onto google, searched for the best affiliate marketing programs in the Philippines, which is where I travel the most and most of my audience at the time currently was, and found travelph.com and became and affiliate partner with them. Now this is actually a cool site and I do use it from time to time. It’s a bit like booking.com but basically for Philippines.

I was so excited  that I was promoting them, putting their stuff on my website and sharing their hotels and images and running ads, as this was my first company I became an affiliate with, but that was until I discovered something even better! Agoda.com!

To be honest, I’ve always been more a booking.com kinda girl and thought it was great as I could get discounts for being a genius member as I was a frequent traveler and you had flexibility in when you paid and cancelled your bookings. No upfront payments was always a win which is why I was always using them over Agoda but now Agoda have brought this in for some of their bookings, I have to say I’m pretty much fully converted.

One of the biggest draw in’s for me with Agoda.com, was that I discovered their reward point system, by paying a few extra dollars (which is optional) you had the option to earn flight points (and it shows you at the time of booking how many you can earn) with about 40 different airlines to choose from including including Get Go PH (of which I’m a member and to this day think it’s the best value for your points system on offer, this is Cebu Pacific (Philippines) Airline rewards system). Now as I travel there a lot, and live in Australia, there isn’t many ways unlike the others to earn points, so when I discovered you could with Agoda I was ecstatic! As points with them truly does give you a big discount when applying them to flights and I’ve managed to get a flight to Dumaguete for $18 AUD before and 3000 points (you get 4000 I think per Australia trip from memory).

On top of this I found Agoda give you a gift voucher which is credited back to your Agoda account, this can range anywhere from a few cents to the most I’ve had in one transaction was $32 USD! Now imagine having a few bookings up your sleeve and having all this credit on your account of which you have about 4 months to use. I have about $60 AUD sitting in my account from 2 bookings only currently in my account waiting to be used! That’s certainly going to help on future bookings as in Melbourne that can be up to 3 nights accommodation in a backpackers. So essentially that’s 3 free nights accommodation!

With 1,950,000 properties to choose from worldwide, its pretty hard to not find something you will like. And if you are booking on behalf of people, I must say it’s certainly easier than when using booking.com. I often am making bookings on behalf of people, either staff or friends in Philippines and Australia, and it’s such an easy process with them checking in and not needing a credit card or myself to be present at the time of check in, unlike with other hotel sites.

Recently I’ve had to start making some more bookings regularly, and I’m starting to think about my next travels, so I thought, hmm what If I could become an affiliate for Agoda and make commissions on top of the gift card discounts I was already getting back. So I applied, got approved and did just that.

So on a recent booking of which I made on someone else’s behalf, I was able to get the discount to my account as I booked it under my account, but I also booked it under my affiliate code so I also receive a commission. It may be a super small commission for now as they have tier booking system, but hey, every dollar counts when it comes to saving for traveling, and I’m getting paid just for making the booking, without spending a dime of my own or staying there myself! So from booking two rooms for 1 night each, I should make $13 each back on the bookings for the gift card (credit to your account) plus a few extra dollars from each booking as the commission.

Who else books with Agoda? or who do you use where you can actually get money back just for booking with them this easily?

I know lots of sites including AirBnB.com and booking.com have their own reward systems which works on referrals and getting credit back that way, personally I’ve found that way to not be very effective for me, but I think this way and the instant dollars back works way better for me! $35 dollars USD Roughly made back just for making a hotel booking? I think that’s a win! Don’t you agree?

As always, happy travels, and if you are a frequent traveller, maybe have a look into booking with Agoda.com in future and save yourself some money, whilst making money at the same time!

TTL Xx

Yeah it’s awesome! I only discovered about the money gift voucher thing late last year, and that they changed their bookings so you didn’t have to pay upfront with all bookings anymore. Certainly worth it for me as I’m always booking trips for others too and they offer great rewards!

I’ll definitely have to look into this. I’m planning to do a brewery road trip soon and every dollar saved will let me try even more brews. Thanks for the tip!

Ohh that would be so awesome! Where are you thinking of heading? I haven’t actually heard of someone doing this, but I’m certainly a fan of a good drink, so I am much the same, more money saved is more money towards fun!
